Building For Success

Building For Success

Welcome to Bridging the Healthcare Performance Gap and thank you for joining us as we learn ways to put the pieces together and strengthen our healthcare organizations by moving our people and critical systems from good to great. Our focus on quality and performance improvement should not be busy work meant to take us away from our patients. If done properly, the focus is on the success of our healthcare organizations and creating strong relationships with our patients and stakeholders.

Healthy quality and performance improvement programs should take us closer to greatness every day by working to make sure we are strong today (quality assurance), becoming stronger for tomorrow (quality improvement) and building for a great future (performance improvement). At the heart of a strong quality continuum is the goal of making our patients to feel well cared for and deeply cared about today, tomorrow and into the forseeable future. It creates the assurance for them that they are our first priority.

We have designed these educational programs to be easy to use and respectful of the limited time healthcare people can make available as our patients must come first. While we can appreciate how busy our healthcare people are, we must also find time for education if we are to keep pace with the healthcare environment. The self-study approach allows you to do this at your own pace and focus on those areas that are most important to you. Happy learning and best wishes in making your healthcare organization the very best it can be for your community and stakeholders.

Learning With Us On-Line (click on the blue title to participate in a
connect
short introductory program)

To use this site, you need to know two things. The first is how to navigate the site and then how to utilize the courses. It is all pretty easy and the site has been specifically designed for those people who don't have a lot of experience with internet learning.

If this is you first time, you will want to set up an account to facilitate login in the future (click on the blue "set up an account" to set up your account). It will also allow you to create education records for yourself if necessary for documentation.

To use this website, you simply need to select the group of courses you are interested in by clicking on the blue title in one of the boxes on this page. For example, you can select the group of quality-related courses by clicking on the blue title Building a Culture for Quality. This will take you to a list of all the courses in that cirriculum. You can then simply select the course you are interested in by again clicking on the blue title. A box will then prompt you to enter your password. If you do not have a password because you have not yet purchased the program, you can select "Purchase Program" and it will allow you to purchase it on-line. The program will then automatically issue a password.

Once you have entered your password and clicked on "Select", the educational program will open and begin to play. To learn how to get the most out of your educational experience, please take 10 minutes and complete "Learning on Line". You can access this program by clicking on the blue title in this box.

Please note: The blue wording always indicates a link to additional information. You can access that information by clicking on that wording. Because of the program design, the lessons work best with Internet Explorer and DSL or satellite connectivity. If your browser is something other than Internet Explorer and you are using dial-up connectivity, you may have some difficulty with the speed and animation.

Building a Culture for Quality
patient 10

Our healthcare organizations are in the business of delivering a high quality patient care. If that is our business focus, the healthcare industry needs quality programs that can help to create great clinical outcomes and patient experiences. Unfortunately, too many quality programs function well below what is needed to meet the expectations of our patients, communities and other stakeholders.

This series of educational programs is designed to help our healthcare organizations in retooling their quality programs to overcome the flaws that compromise their effectiveness and to develop quality programs that make meaningful, purposeful contributions to building stronger futures. The programs are designed to help our healthcare organizations in building quality and performance improvement programs that focus on moving beyond good and into the world of great performance.

Healthcare Risk ManagementCredentialing Image

Risk management is an extremely important activity inside any healthcare organization that compliments the quality program. Our quality and risk management programs came into healthcare about the same time and were both products of the medical malpractice crisis of the late 1970's. Together strong quality and risk management programs serve to protect our healthcare organizations from internal threats while also building the foundation for healthy future growth.

This series of educational programs is designed to help our healthcare organizations in designing and implementing risk management programs that work hand-in-hand with quality programs to help our organizations build stronger futures.

Bridging the Health Care Leadership Gap
meeting
Leadership serves as the foundation of any healthcare organization. Only very brave or very foolish employees will attempt to reach for better performance and outcomes inspite of their leaders. If leadership is not out in front leading the charge, organizations aren't going to get anywhere. Leadership sets the bar for just how high or how low the potential for organizational success is.

This series of educational programs is designed to help our healthcare managers and leaders to feel more comfortable in their roles and to learn some of those critical skills that can help them. They are designed to help our healthcare leaders in raising the bar of their own performance so that our organizations can move the bar up on organizational performance. The goal is to bring out the potential that is locked away in our management teams.

Health Care Boards in the 21st Century
board room

The future of our healthcare organizations are dependent on the effectiveness of the leadership that comes from their respective boards. The board sets the course for the organization's futures and the expectations for organizational outcomes. A board's decision-making and change-management capabilities can determine whether their organization will stagnate and die very slow painful deaths or it will flourish and succeed in a very demanding environment.

The educational programs contained in this series serve to supplement the educational programs contained in the video series titled "Health Care Boards in the 21st Century; Building Healthy Leadership for our Rural Hospitals. They are designed to help board members and senior leaders to keep moving their own performance to a higher level so they are always leading the way for the organizations to experience stronger futures.

Working for Our Personal Best
Nurse
This educational series allows you to work with a tool called the Enneagram. It is a tool that helps us to better understand the dominant personality traits and behaviors that we rely on in day-to-day interactions. These traits and behaviors can easily impact the quality of our relationships and the potential of the healthcare team. In the end, they can have a profound impact on what our patients and communities experience when they are in our environment.

As the perception of teamwork is one of the primary indicators patients use in judging healthcare quality, the development of strong team relationships is critical. The Enneagram is a tool that helps us to understand the strengths and challenges each team member brings to a relationship. When we have a better understanding of these dynamics, we have the potential to build stronger relationships and find healthier answers to issues such as conflict. In the end, our patients have a better chance of having the kind of healthcare experiences they are looking for and our providers have a better chance of building the kind of reputations they deserve.
